How much should a CV cost in the UK?

CV writing prices in the UK range from around £50 to £400 or more, which makes it hard to know what's fair. Price usually reflects three things: how much human time goes in, how senior the role is, and how tailored the work is. Here's how to think about value rather than just cost.
The budget end (roughly £40-£90)
Often a quick rewrite or a template-led service. Fine for a tidy-up, but usually light on tailoring, strategy and consultation.
The mid-market (roughly £120-£200)
Where most professionals get the best value: genuine tailoring to a target role, stronger positioning, and an editable document you can reuse. This is the sweet spot for mid-career applicants.
The premium end (£300+)
Executive and consultative services with in-depth interviews and senior positioning. Worth it for leadership roles; often more than most applicants need.
What to check before you pay
Ask what's included - revisions, formats, turnaround - whether the CV is tailored to a specific role, and whether you receive an editable file. A cheap CV you can't reuse isn't cheap if you pay again next time.
A note on the cheapest option
The lowest price often means the least tailoring. If the goal is more interviews, relevance and evidence matter more than saving £40.
